How InLight chooses

Gem traditions in Europe and in India both give each planet a stone. InLight starts with the planet that rules your chart, then adds a stone for your Sun, your Moon, the planet that works hardest for you and the element you have least of.

You don't need all of them. Most people wear one, and add a second only when they want support with something specific.

Your main stone: ruby

Leo is your Rising sign and the Sun rules it, which makes the Sun the ruler of your whole chart. Its stone is ruby.

It is traditionally worn for confidence, vitality and being seen. Your Sun is in Gemini, in your 11th house, so for you that support goes to friendship, community and long-term hopes.

If ruby is out of reach, the usual alternative is garnet or red spinel. Tradition treats it as the same quality in a gentler form.

A stone is a reminder. It points you back to a quality you want more of.

For your Gemini Sun: agate

Western astrology also gives each sign stones of its own. For Gemini the classic ones are agate and citrine. Lists differ a little from source to source.

Treat this as an everyday stone for being more yourself: curious, quick and versatile.

For your Capricorn Moon: garnet

A Moon stone is a comfort stone. For a Capricorn Moon the classic ones are garnet and onyx: something to wear or keep near when you need respect, structure and a sense of making progress.

Pearl and moonstone belong to the Moon itself. They are the general choice for calm, whatever your Moon sign.

For the part that works hardest: yellow sapphire

Jupiter takes the most pressure in your chart: it is square Mars, opposite Mercury and opposite Venus. Its stone, yellow sapphire, is traditionally worn to steady your appetite for growth.

Citrine or yellow topaz is the gentler option.

For balance: a water stone

Water is the quietest element in your chart. The stones linked to it are moonstone, aquamarine and pearl. People wear them to bring in a little more feeling, closeness and intuition.

By your numbers: emerald

Indian numerology gives each number a planet. You were born on a 5 day, and 5 belongs to Mercury, whose stone is emerald.

Your Life Path 8 belongs to Saturn: blue sapphire.

How to wear them

The usual advice is to wear a stone where it touches your skin, as a ring or a pendant, and to put it on for the first time on its planet's day: Sunday for ruby.

Size and price matter less than whether you actually wear it. Lab-grown stones are the same mineral as mined ones, and a small honest stone is better than a large doubtful one.

If you follow Vedic astrology

Jyotish gem advice uses the sidereal zodiac, where your Rising sign is often one sign earlier than the one shown here. It also weighs which planets help or hinder you before recommending anything, and strong stones such as blue sapphire are traditionally tried for a few days first. For a formal recommendation in that tradition, see a Jyotish practitioner.

Keep it real

Gemstone lore is tradition and symbolism. There is no scientific evidence that a stone changes health, luck or events, and it doesn't replace medical, legal or financial advice.

What a stone can do is remind you. You see it every day, and it points you back to a quality you want more of.
